Privacy policy: Ìmọ̀
Last updated: 18 May 2026
This policy describes how Ìmọ̀ · Learn Yoruba (“the App”), published by FatherXLdn (“we”, “us”), collects, uses, and shares information when you use the App. If anything here is unclear, contact us at hello@fatherxldn.co.uk.
Who we are
The App is developed by FatherXLdn, an independent developer based in the United Kingdom. We are the data controller for any personal data processed in connection with the App, except where a third party (such as Apple, Google, or RevenueCat) acts as an independent controller under their own terms.
Summary
Ìmọ̀ is a Yoruba language learning app. It stores all vocabulary progress data locally on your device. It does not have a backend server and does not transmit your learning data to us or to any analytics service. The only external data flows are: (1) subscription verification through RevenueCat and the platform store, and (2) on-device text-to-speech provided by your operating system when you use the pronunciation feature.
Information we process
On your device
The App stores your learning progress locally using on-device storage (AsyncStorage), including:
- Which vocabulary items you have marked as “known” or “needs practice”.
- Quiz session scores and results during an active session (held in memory only, not persisted across restarts).
This data never leaves your device and is deleted when you uninstall the App or clear its data in your device settings.
Subscriptions and purchases
Purchases are processed by Apple App Store and/or Google Play. We do not receive your payment card details. The platform stores and RevenueCat handle subscription management under their own privacy policies. RevenueCat gives the App the data needed to confirm whether a subscription is active; this involves a pseudonymous customer identifier, not your name or email address.
Text-to-speech
When you tap the speaker button to hear a word pronounced, the App passes the Yoruba text to your device's built-in text-to-speech engine (provided by Apple or Google). No audio is recorded and no data is sent to our servers. Processing is performed entirely on your device or, if your OS delegates speech synthesis to a cloud service, subject to your platform provider's settings and policies.
Note: as of the current version, no dedicated Yoruba voice is available on iOS or Android. The App displays a message to that effect rather than playing an incorrect pronunciation. When pre-recorded audio clips are added in a future update, they will be bundled within the App and played locally; no audio recording or network requests will be involved.
Information we do not collect
The App does not collect or transmit: crash reports, analytics events, advertising identifiers, location data, contacts, camera or microphone input, or any other personal data beyond what is described above. There are no third-party analytics SDKs in the App.
Legal bases (UK / EEA)
Where UK GDPR or the GDPR applies, we rely on:
- Contract, to provide the subscription and premium features you have chosen to purchase.
- Legitimate interests, to maintain the security and reliability of the service, balanced against your rights.
Retention
Progress data is stored solely on your device and is retained until you uninstall the App or clear its data. RevenueCat and platform store records are retained by those providers under their own policies, principally for billing purposes.
Sharing and subprocessors
We share data with service providers only as needed to operate the App. Those providers are:
- Apple and Google (app distribution and in-app purchases).
- RevenueCat (subscription status verification and pseudonymous customer identifiers).
We do not sell personal data. We do not share data with advertisers.
International transfers
RevenueCat and the platform stores may process data in the United States or other countries. Where required we rely on appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses or adequacy decisions. Contact us for more detail.
Children
The App is not directed at children under 13 (or the applicable digital consent age in your region). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have, contact us so we can delete it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to certain processing, and to port data or lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. Because all learning data is stored on your device, you can delete it at any time by uninstalling the App or clearing its data in settings. For rights relating to subscription records held by us or by RevenueCat, contact hello@fatherxldn.co.uk. Rights against Apple or Google are exercised through their account tools.
Security
All subscription-related network requests use HTTPS. On-device storage is subject to your device's own encryption and access controls. No method of storage is completely secure; use the App only on devices you trust.
Changes
We may update this policy when we add features or subprocessors (for example when pre-recorded audio is added). We will revise the “Last updated” date and, where required, notify you in the App or by email.
